Home Grown

I read a story last week about a Philadelphia Eagles running back who took some friends to PYT, a Philly burger joint. The millionaire athlete paid the tab for their $60+ meal; then left a 20-cent tip. Not a 20 percent tip, just 20 cents. It’s not too surprising. Stiffing a waiter may be considered poor form, but you don’t expect model behavior from a football player. Did you know 28 NFL players have been arrested in the past 7 months? Anyway, the server took a photo of the credit card receipt and posted it on his facebook page. The restaurant owner defended him, saying there had been no complaints about the service and that the football player was, “verbally abusive to the staff in the most insulting ways.” From this I learned two things: unless you have specific issues with the service you receive, a good tip is mandatory. And if you DO tip well, the staff won’t mind being verbally abused.
