My favorite quote from You’ve Got Mail is, “When you read a
book as a child, it becomes a part of your identity in a way that no other
reading in your whole life does.” Several friends have been challenged to
select ten books that have stayed with them in some way. Their replies have
been thoughtful, informative and eclectic, much like my friends themselves. I
wasn’t surprised to see many of them mentioned books they’d read as children.
Here are mine:
William Pène du Bois’ The
21 Balloons
Lucy Maud Montgomery’s Anne
of Green Gables
Roald Dahl’s Charlie
and the Chocolate Factory
E. B. White’s Charlotte’s
Web
C. S. Lewis’ Narnia
Chronicles
E. L. Konigsburg’s From
the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiller
J. R. R. Tolkein’s The
Hobbit
Mark Twain’s Huckleberry
Finn
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince
Harper Lee’s To Kill a
Mockingbird
Kenneth Graham’s Wind
in the Willows
I’d love to see your list.
