Nine Pumpkin Blossoms

Chick-fil-A founder Truett Cathy was no stranger to hard work. His first job was selling Coca-Cola at six bottles a quarter. In 2008 two preteen girls vandalized his home in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, causing more than $30,000 in damage. More than the money, Cathy was troubled by the filthy words these children had written on the walls. He refused to prosecute fearing a criminal record would haunt them for life. Instead, he worked out a deal with their parents. They were banned from TV and video games and had to write: “I will not vandalize other peoples’ property” a thousand times. In 2012 Mr. Cathy’s son Dan told the Baptist Free Press his dad believed in the biblical definition of family. For that, Chick-Fil-A was boycotted and banned. But Truett Cathy practiced what he preached. He was married to the same woman for more than 66 years. Mr. Cathy died yesterday. He was 93.
